The Quitman Lady Bulldogs kept their quest for a playoff run alive with a convincing 3-0 sweep over Lone Oak last Tuesday. The scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 bringing Quitman’s district slate to 5-2 and season record 15-21 going into Friday’s contest at Grand Saline.

Lady Bulldogs sweep Lone Oak
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs kept their quest for a playoff run alive with a convincing 3-0 sweep over Lone Oak last Tuesday. The scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 bringing Quitman’s district slate to 5-2 and season record 15-21 going into Friday’s contest at Grand Saline.
In the first game, Lone Oak took an early 8-3 advantage, but the Lady Bulldogs came back strong, going on a 13-5 run behind superb serving by Julia Simpkins, Ava Burroughs and Lucy Brannon to take a 21-13 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs finished off the first set with the 25-15 win and after that dominated the match.
“I thought the girls played really well tonight. I felt a confidence tonight from the team that I don’t know if I have felt from them all season. This is a great time to feel that. I felt like we served tough and that paid off,” Head Coach Ashlee Lingo said. “These ladies keep working hard to improve each week. It was a fun game to coach tonight. Our JV also worked really well! They are hitting and serving very well!”
Burroughs, with 16 kills, and Jentri Jackson who added 10 kills, dominated play at the net while setter Shelby Hayes was again consistent with her passing, netting 27 assists as well as adding four digs, two kills and three aces. Burroughs also had six digs, a block and four aces while Jackson added six digs. Maddy Whitehurst had 10 digs, six kills, an ace and a block. Brannon had 10 digs, four kills and four aces, and Simpkins added three digs, five kills and two aces.
