The Quitman Lady Bulldogs went 1-1 in district softball contests, defeating Harmony 14-3 and falling to Mt. Vernon 14-2.

Against Harmony, the Lady Bulldogs banged out 18 hits led by Kennedi Elmore’s five hits and three RBI. Larkin Spears added three hits and three RBI. Alexis O’Neal, Ashley Davis, Addison Marcee and Sophia Tannebaum each had two hits in the offensive explosion.

Elmore had two doubles, a triple and two singles. Spears also had a triple.

Harmony grabbed the early lead on a home run by Grace Kalenak with a runner on to go up 2-0. Quitman went ahead with four runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 6-3.

The Lady Bulldogs scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away by the 10-run mercy rule. Quitman also played flawless in the field with no errors. Reiny Luman was the winning pitcher.

At Mt. Vernon the Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then their high-powered offense got in gear in the second inning with six runs, four more in the third inning and three in the fourth to take a commanding 14-0 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs struck back with two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was too little, too late. Quitman was held to eight hits, all singles. Luman and Davis led on offense with two hits each.

The Lady Bulldogs will be at home Thursday evening to take on county rival Mineola at 6 p.m.
