Lady Bulldogs grab key win over Rains
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs put forth one of their season’s best performances downing Rains Oct. 15 in district 12-3A action 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-9.
The victory moved the Lady Bulldogs into a tie with Rains for second place at 6-3 in district action. The win gives Quitman a bit of revenge from a first round five-set match which they lost at Rains.
After falling in the first set, a determined Lady Bulldog team stormed past the Lady ‘Cats in the final three sets taking the fourth set in dominant fashion by a 25-9 final tally.
Sophomore middle blocker Ava Burroughs dominated at the net with 15 kills and two blocks. Jentri Jackson played well offensively and defensively with eight kills and nine digs. Maddy Whitehurst had an all around solid effort with 15 digs, four kills and four aces.
Setter Shelby Hayes numbered 33 assists and six digs with Julia Simpkins adding five digs, five kills and two aces. Lucy Brannon recorded 10 digs, four kills and a trio of aces with Brooklyn Marcee adding seven digs and three kills.
Head Coach Ashlee Lingo was happy with the Lady Bulldog effort.
“This was our best showing this season. I am a very proud coach! It was especially good after coming off of a tough loss to Grand Saline on Friday. It meant that much more coming out and performing the way they did tonight,” Lingo exclaimed. “These ladies played together and played their best. I hope they continue to keep up the good work into playoffs.”
Quitman JV continued its winning ways by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 28-26.
