Lady Bulldogs fall to Community, 52-33, thanks to fourth-quarter free throws

This was one of those games where the score did not really indicate how close the game really was. The final tally of last Tuesday’s game was 52-33 in favor of Nevada Community, but going into the fourth period, Quitman was down by just four points, 30-26. Community would hit on 11-18 final quarter free throws.

In the first half, Community hit on 9-13 from the charity stripe making it 20-33 for the game. Quitman would end the game hitting 12-18 from the line.

The score was tied at 9-9 after one quarter, but Community’s 13-2 second quarter advantage gave them a 22-11 lead at the half. Quitman’s Utopia Henry hit a bucket and was fouled with five seconds to go in the third quarter. Henry made the free throw and Quitman was down only by four, 30-26.

Quitman’s leading rebounder, Molly Tanner, fell victim to her fifth foul and had to leave the game with 6:54 left in the contest. At that time, Community took control of the boards on both ends of the court and hit 11 free throws down the stretch. Community had 22 points in the final quarter to seven for Quitman.

Tanner had nine points for Quitman while Madalyn Spears added eight.

This week Quitman was to be at home Tuesday (after Monitor presstime) against Cumby. They will be in the Edgewood Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
