Lady Bulldogs battle for first district victory
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs captured their first district win, defeating Winona in three exciting sets by the scores of 28-26, 25-22 and 25-21.
It was a team effort for Quitman with the back row handling Winona serves and passing to setters who got the ball to front line players for scores.
Abby Day had a solid day from the service line with tough serves that Winona had trouble returning. Allie Berry played all over the court, making numerous kill efforts. Addie Marcee, Hannah Holland and Kalli Hoover each had great plays on offense and defense.
Each set had moments of solid play on both sides of the ball. Winona put up a battle in each set but could not hold off the hustle and desire of the Lady Bulldogs.
The first set found the Lady Bulldogs down 23-18, but they roared back to tie it at 23-23 and then take the win 28-26. In the final two sets Winona kept it close, but Quitman snuffed out each rally by the Lady Cats.
The Lady Bulldogs are on the road this week. They played at Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill Tuesday and follow it up at Mineola Saturday.
