Mineola’s Abeni (Abby) Kratzmeyer, reigning 3A state champion in the pole vault, intends to represent Texas as she competes in Australia this summer for individual honors as well as a team championship in track and field.

The Mineola High sophomore was invited to compete in Queensland, Australia by Down Under Sports, an organization founded in 1989 that sponsors competition in football, cheer, cross country, track and field, basketball, volleyball and soccer.

She is scheduled to depart for Queensland on July 6 and will have to raise funds to cover the cost of the 10-day excursion.

Last May, Kratzmeyer captured gold as a freshman during the 2018 UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin. She set a personal record while winning the title with a jump of 11’ 9.”
