Lake Country band to stage Sousa Palooza

The Lake Country Symphonic Band in Mineola will open its 2017 concert season in grand style with an all-Sousa concert, titled Sousa Palooza on Sunday and Tuesday.

The community band will present many of Sousa’s most popular marches, as well as a few that are not performed as often. On the program will be crowd favorites such as “King Cotton,” “Semper Fidelis,” “The Gladiator,” and “Glory of the Yankee Navy.” Lesser known pieces include “Homeward Bound,” “Pet of the Petticoats,” “The Triton,” and “Imperial Edward.” Nineteen of Sousa’s compositions will be played from the stage of Select Theater in Mineola.

The Sunday, March 5 concert will begin at 2 p.m. and the Tuesday, March 7 performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.. The box office will open one hour and the doors 30 minutes prior to performances. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children. The Select Theater is located at 114 N. Johnson Street, in Mineola.

Additionally, season tickets for the 2017 season are available for $20, a savings of $8 off the individual concert prices.

Beginning its 18th year, The Lake Country Symphonic Band is a volunteer ensemble with musicians ranging in age from 13 to 94. Rehearsing once a week, the band presents four concerts in its season, each concert being performed twice under Music Director Mike Holbrook.
