Kings Lane repairs OK’d

Faced with two bad streets and money to repair only one, the Mineola City Council voted Monday to complete the repairs started last year on Kings Lane.

Public Works Director William Crump said repairs to complete the 1,900 feet of Kings Lane would cost $68,800.

He noted that if the street is not renovated this year, it will deteriorate to the point that city crews can no longer accomplish the work, and a contractor will have to be hired.

The other street on Crump’s list is Meadowbrook, east of N. Pacific to Kenny St. That would cost $40,560 to repair the 700 feet.

The street suffered significant damage during the winter storm in February.

The council also approved improving Humphreys St., just off Guy St., at a cost of $20,953.

Crump said that the street is not on any current city maps but was located on an older city map.

City Manager Mercy Rushing said city staff was not even aware that it was a dedicated street and thought it was a dirt driveway to a home owned by Brandon Collins.

Crump said the city needs to get an accurate survey of the property.

The old city maps show a subdivision with about 15 homes, Rushing said.

It originally went all the way through to Boundary St., Crump said.

It will require two drainage culverts as well as base material and asphalt.

The council approved several items from the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Two properties off E. Meadbrook, east of Robin, were approved for zoning changes to make way for a duplex development. One tract is west of Brenda and had been zoned for manufactured homes. The zoning was changed to medium density housing.

The other tract to the west was also changed to medium density. It had been zoned for larger single family lots. That tract is not expected to be developed for duplexes in the near future.

A special use permit was approved to operate a tattoo parlor at 421. E. Broad St., Suite 3.
