Jimmy Don Spears 1961-2021

Jimmy Don “Grandpa J” Spears of Quitman gained his heavenly wings on Sept. 8, 2021 in Longview at age 60.

Jimmy was born in Quitman on May 18, 1961 to OB Spears and Novella Stansell. Jimmy was a Quitman High School Graduate, Class of 1979, and a lifetime resident of Quitman. He was a retiree of Wood County Road and Bridge Precinct 4 where he worked as a foreman and road tech for 19 years. Grandpa J loved spending time with his family, especially activities involving his children and grandchildren. 

Jimmy greets in Heaven his father, OB Spears, and mother, Novella Stansell; and sisters, Marcella Champion of Quitman and Linda Duree of Sulphur Springs.  

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandy Spears of Quitman; five children, Richard and wife Lindsey Spears of Quitman, Michael and wife Chelsy Spears of Gilmer, Andrea “Andi” and husband Blake Low of Quitman, Steven and wife April McKinley of Tyler and Allison “Alli” and husband Jacob Head of Quitman; two siblings, David and wife Patricia Spears of Quitman and Kathy Vandergirff of Sulphur Springs; 18 grandchildren, Madalyn, Carley, Larkin, Payton, Dalton and Kolton Spears of Quitman, Sean, Ronnie, Aubree, Oliver, Hudsyn and Conley Spears of Gilmer, Braylon, Jace and Abbi Low of Quitman, Aaron Ray McKinley of Tyler, and Gavin and Charlee Jo Head of Quitman; and several nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends. 

Funeral service for Jimmy was held at 11  a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Graveside service followed at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The family received friends two hours prior to service time, beginning at 9 a.m.
