Jackets stop Gorman and split at Chisum
Mineola defeated Bishop Gorman 19-11 in a non-district baseball game Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The Yellowjackets opened with an eight-run first and never trailed.
Gorman came back with a six-run second to get within 11-7, but Mineola responded with six more in the top of the third.
Caleb Gant collected three hits and drove in three runs, and Remington Coleman had two hits and drove in two for the ‘Jackets.
Each team recorded 12 hits.
Jack Heard struck out four in 2-2/3 innings of work while Cason Davis struck out three on the mound. Cole Castleberry also saw pitching duty for Mineola.
During the weekend Parus Chisum tournament, the Yellowjackets took an 11-8 victory over Hooks and fell to the hosts 10-8.
Castleberry and Gant each drove in two runs against Hooks. Cason Davis threw six innings for Mineola, striking out three.
Mineola had 10 hits while Hooks had nine.
Hooks opened a 6-4 lead in the first. Mineola trimmed the lead with a run in the third. After Hooks scored in the top of the fifth, Mineola took over with six in the bottom of the inning.
An eight-run third spelled the difference against Chisum.
Mineola scored three in the top of the second to lead 3-2. A valiant come back in the fourth got the Yellowjackets within 10-8.
Dalton Rogers had a pair of hits and was one of three Jackets to draw two walks, with Castleberry and Coleman. Jacob Dabbs and Rogers each drove in two runs.
