• Thursday and Friday the Quitman Friends of the Library are having a spring cookbook sale at the library from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

• The Mineola Yellowjackets’ first game in the Van Tournament is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.

• On Saturday an anniversary banquet for Rev. Demethruis and Kathy Boyd of St Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Mineola is being held at Addie McFarland Center at 6 p.m. Call 903-569-1145 for more information.

• The Republican Party of Wood County will host its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Land’s End Pavilion.

• On Sunday East Chapel CME is hosting Rose Johnson’s 47th Musician Appreciation Service at 3:30 p.m.

• On Monday from 1-3 p.m. Wood County Extension Agent Angie Monk will give a food nutrition demonstration at the WIC office in Quitman at 1020 East Goode Street. The public is invited.

• Tuesday will bring the second Mineola School Board tour of facilities. Those interested in viewing the buildings to get firsthand information for the bond election are invited to the high school gym lobby at 6:30 p.m.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
