The school district and fans are planning a championship celebration to welcome the UIL State 3A Champion Marching Band back to Mineola from San Antonio on Thursday.

On Tuesday night the band was announced as 2017 UIL State Band Champions for Conference 3A in the Alamadome in San Antonio. They were one of 20 bands from across the state the competed for the title.

The state champs are set to arrive back in Mineola Thursday at 5 p.m. and will be escorted from the west edge of town on Highway 80. They will travel through downtown to Pacific Street (Highway 69) and around to Loop 564 to conclude at the back parking lot of Mineola High School. Fans are asked to stand along the route and cheer and / or join them at the high school to welcome them home.

In addition, the gold medalists will be recognized at a Community Pep Rally at 2 p.m. at Meredith Memorial Stadium on Friday. The school invites parents and community members to attend and help honor the MHS Marching Band. Mayor Kevin White and the City of Mineola will be in attendance and there is also a possible visit from State Senator Bryan Hughes.

“Thank you for your support of our outstanding band students and directors,” said Superintendent Kim Tunnell.
