Judge Janae Holland, Mineola Precinct Two Justice of the Peace, has been selected by the Texas African American Museum in Tyler as one of East Texas’ Notable African American Women.

A reception honoring Holland and 19 more African American women who are helping “Move Our City Forward” will be at the Tyler Rose Garden on Feb. 18, 12-2 p.m. and is open to the public.

As part of Black History Month, the reception recognizing these outstanding women also proclaims the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote, being formally adopted into the US Constitution.

Holland was chosen for being the first African American judge in Mineola and for her unwavering spirit and effort to keep the community moving forward.

The Texas African American Museum, at 3000 N. Border Avenue in Tyler, focuses on education and historic preservation of African American history in Texas and America. To learn more, contact Gloria Washington 903-283-6089 and visit www.texasafricanamericanmuseum.org.
