Holbrook stepping aside as director at historic theater

Posted

Mike Holbrook, who has directed the Lake Country Playhouse and Select Theater in Mineola for the past 13 years, has announced his retirement from the day-to-day operations of the historic theater, which is celebrating its centennial.

Holbrook plans to remain as the director of the Lake Country Symphonic Band, which normally performs four times a year at the theater plus the 4th of July concert.

“It is with both sadness and appreciation that the Lake Country Playhouse/ Select Theater-Mineola announces the retirement of Mike Holbrook….” said Jeff Hurley, president of the non-profit theater/playhouse. “Mike has been instrumental in many of the successes of our playhouse and theater in the last thirteen years.… Please join us in congratulating Mike in his retirement and thanking him for continuing to help provide the ‘magic’ that our theater and playhouse provides in East Texas.”

The theater usually shows first-run movies but has switched to classic films during the pandemic, which has limited the release of new films. It also hosts the playhouse which generally has four performances a year, also curtailed by the pandemic (along with the symphony).
