Highway 69 south wreck claims Quitman man’s life

A 21-year-old Quitman young man died as the result of a two-vehicle accident south of Mineola early Saturday. Bryce Palmer was pronounced dead at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler at 6:48 a.m.

The driver of the second vehicle, 61-year-old Rodolfo Guerrero of Greenville sustained serious injuries and was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. No passengers were noted in either vehicle.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to the accident at 3:35 a.m. Saturday two miles south of Mineola on Highway 69. According to Trooper Justin Rhodes’ report Palmer was driving his GMC Sierra north on Highway 69 and Guerrero was going south.

The report states that Palmer drove on the wrong side of the road and the front left of his truck hit the front left of the Mountaineer. The truck spun counter clockwise into the center of the road where it rested. The Mountaineer spun clockwise into the southbound ditch, rolled on its left and top and them came to rest with all four tires on the dirt.

The trooper was assisted in the investigation by Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy Delton Graves.
