Grand Champions bring great prices at livestock show

They have been doing it since 1982, and the 2017 version of the Wood County Junior Livestock did not disappoint. The weather was picture perfect during the week and especially at Saturday’s live auction. Youngsters with their animals and agriculture mechanic projects were spread out across the Jack Cross Pavilion area in Winnsboro. Total sales from the auction reached $186,300.

Reid Lovorn of the Winnsboro FFA had the Grand Champion Steer which was sponsored by Winnsboro Livestock and bought by S&J Contractors for $5,000. Madison Driver of Winnsboro FFA had the Grand Champion Commercial Heifer which was sponsored by Drive-Ag LLC and bought by Wood County Electric for $4,300.

Other Grand Champions were: Emma Allen, Winnsboro FFA, Dairy Heifer, sponsored by Hemmingsen Farm and purchased by Wood County Farm Bureau for $3,700 and Junior Showmanship; Brooke Lee, Quitman FFA, Swine, sponsored by Caliber Associates, purchased by Potts Feed store for $2,250; Koeerth Ragsdale, Alba-Golden FFA, Goat, sponsored by C&M Lumber and purchased by C&M Building Supply; Gracie Beech, Yantis FFA, Lamb, sponsored by Freddie and Linda Fisher, purchased by City National Bank for $2,250; Will Louderman, Wood County 4-H, Broiler, sponsored by C&M Building Supply and purchased by City National Bank for $1,200; Curtis Perkins, Wood County 4-H, Rabbits, sponsored by Kyle Hayes Dairy and purchased by Quitman Dairy Queen for $950; and Trenton Norris, Winnsboro FFA, Welding Trailer, sponsored by Cowboy Steel Construction, purchased by S&J Contractors for $4,250.

Reserved Champions were: Justin Noll, Winnsboro FFA, Steer, sponsored by Gray Industrial Electric, purchased by Winnsboro Livestock and Dairy Auction for $3,600; Layton Stout, Winnsboro FFA, Commercial Heifer, sponsored by Grins and Giggles and purchased by Tommy Pope for $2,600; Maddie Hooker, Yantis FFA, Dairy Heifer, sponsored by Jesse Hooker, and purchased by Winnsboro livestock and Dairy Auction; Jentri Jackson, Senior Showmanship, Quitman FFA, Swine, sponsored by Quitman Dairy Queen and purchased by Quitman Dairy Queen for $2,500; Rylee Allen, Junior Showmanship, Wood County 4-H, Goat, sponsored by Alan Farms and purchased by Quitman Animal Clinic for $900; Cole McKinney, Wood County 4-H, Broilers, sponsored by Cohan Properties, LLC and purchased by Mineola Community Bank for $1,100; Baily Busby, Wood County 4-H, Rabbits, sponsored by JEB Originals and purchased by Mineola Community Band; and Kayla Robinson, Hawkins FFA, Work Table, sponsored by Courtney Thompson and purchased by Jack and Neta Kemp for $850.
