Harmony sweeps Quitman Relays’ six-team competition

Six schools sent athletes to compete at this year’s Quitman relays held at the track behind the high school. Harmony made it a three team sweep coming in first place in varsity boys, varsity girls and junior varsity boys. There was no junior varsity girls competition.

In boys varsity competition, Harmony totaled 190.5 points followed by Edgewood with 112, Como-Pickton 109, Alba-Golden 86.5, Winona 61 and Quitman 56. The Harmony girls came out on top with 176 points followed by Alba-Golden’s 136, Quitman 113, Edgewood 108, Winona 42 and Como-Pickton 30.

In girls action Madalyn Spears came in first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.99 with Alba-Golden’s Parker McKenzie earning third place at 13.52. Spears dominated the 200 meter dash with a first place time of 26.81.

Alba-Golden’s Ashlyn Rogers took second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.52. In the 800 meter run Kaiti Kelley of Quitman took second with a time of 2:43.24. Quitman’s Joanna Santiago took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:22.31.

Alba-Golden dominated the 100 meter hurdles with Bella Crawford coming in first with a time of 17.79, Sammi Rambsel came in a close second at 17.89 and Grace Bizzell third with 18.10. Crawford came back to place third in the 300 meter hurdles at 54.28.

The Alba-Golden team of Aspen Howard, Beth Nichols, Makenzie Parker and Rogers raced to first place in the 4X100 relay with a time of 53.02. Quitman took second in the 4X400 relay with the team of Julia Simpkins, Moriah Lee, Spears and Kaiti Kelley.

Beth Crittenden won the long jump with a distance of 15’8” and Spears of Quitman took third with a jump of 15’6”. Quitman’s Utopia Henry won first place in the discus toss with a distance of 107’5” and also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 31’.

Rogers of Alba-Golden took third in the triple jump with a distance of 30’4 ½” with teammate Kenzie Chadwick taking third in the high jump with a leap of 4’8”. Alba-Golden’s Parker won the pole vault with a jump of 8’.

In boys varsity results, Quitman’s Dalton Brandon won first place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:33.25. Alba-Golden’s Tobey Shelton won third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.78. Quitman’s Trey Berry won third in the 200 meter dash with a 24.0 time.

Riley Flanagan of Quitman took a second place in the 800 meter run while Alba-Golden’s Luke Kindle won second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.99. Patrick Spurlock of Alba-Golden got second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.62 and the 300 meter hurdles in 44.75.

Alba-Golden took second in the 4X100 relay with the team of Shelton, Kindle, Robert Humphreys and Dakota Melton. The Panthers’ Shelton, Humphreys, Jon Michael Chadwick and Daniel Wiley won third in the 4X200 relay.
