General election includes cities, schools
Wood County citizens will have the opportunity to vote for their school board and/or city council selections at the same time they choose the president and statewide positions on the same ballot.
Those Wood County cities and school districts set to be on the Nov. 3 ballot include city of Hawkins, Hawkins ISD, city of Quitman, Quitman ISD, city of Winnsboro, Alba-Golden ISD, Yantis ISD, Mineola ISD and Big Sandy ISD. They were rescheduled from May.
Those who reside within the city limits will have the opportunity to vote for city and school officials, whereas those who reside in the county may vote only for school districts.
All precincts will be able to vote in the presidential and statewide races.
Winnsboro residents are also able to vote for Precinct 4 constable as a “write in” candidate. Neither party fielded a candidate in the primary.
Early voting begins Oct. 13 and will run through Oct. 30. Early voting will be held at the Wood County Annex (across from the drivers license building) at 200 W. Bermuda St. in Quitman.
Early voting will be conducted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and during the week of Oct. 26-29 citizens may vote from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Individuals who have not registered to vote have until Oct. 5. Those wishing to vote by mail have until Oct. 23 to request an application. To qualify for mail-in ballot, voters must be 65 years of age or older, disabled or be out of the county during the election.
For this election only, voters can bring their ballot to the elections office; however, those individuals must show identification and sign a document relinquishing their ballot to election officials to put in the required locked ballot box.
Election Day voting Nov. 3 will be held from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at various precinct locations.
All voting information may be found on the Wood County elections website or if anyone has questions, call the Wood County elections office at 903-763-2400.
