Garden club lays out plans for programs through the summer

This will be an interesting year for the Fannie Marchman Garden Club in Mineola through August. Here are the highlights, month by month.

Unless otherwise mentioned, the club meets monthly at the Mineola Civic Center, 1150 Newsom on  the third Wednesday at 9.30 am. When field trips are arranged, depending on the location, members meet at the Civic Center to car pool, departure times to be determined.

January 18, Bee Keeping Presentation by Hawkins HS instructor Matt Byrd.

February 15, Ancient Herbs, presenter Paula Copty.

March 15, Bonsai presentation by Jack Mattox.

April 19, Field trip to Longview Arboretum – hosted by Steven Chamblee.

May 17, Installation of officers for 2023-24.

June 21, Field trip to Dreams of Green Nursery in Flint. 

July 19, Field trip to Sook Flower Farm in Lindale. 

August 16, Bat Presentation by Boyd Sanders of Tyler State Park

Community Service Projects:

Fundraiser – Geranium sales, March

Third Annual Garden Tour, June

Scholarship award to a graduating Mineola High School senior

Yard of the Month, recognizing local homeowners

Mineola League of the Arts “Kids Camp” sponsor

Historical Museum

Arbor Day, researching a community location to plant a tree .

Christmas cards delivered to the three local nursing homes for every resident and staff.
