Garden Club lays out plans for coming year

Fannie Marchman Garden Club of Mineola opened its 84th year at its September meeting, and members enjoyed a bulb exchange.

Programs through December will be a field trip to the Rose Gardens in Tyler, followed by lunch, Oct. 16. Carpooling will start from the Civic Center at 9 a.m. 

The next meeting will be on Nov. 20. The program will be on table settings to include floral arrangements, decorations and napkin folding.

Dec. 18 will conclude the 2019 meeting dates with a Christmas luncheon, as yet to be determined.

In 2020, the Jan. 15 meeting program will be milk jug planting.

The Feb. 19 meeting is a field trip to NE Texas Community College, Mt. Pleasant, for a tour of their agricultural department, followed by lunch.

The March 18 meeting will be on keyhole and square foot gardening.

A field trip to Hughes Plant Farm, near Bullard, is scheduled April 15.

Saturday, May 16 the club will be hosting a member’s Tour of Gardens, and further information will be published in 2020.

The conclusion of the club’s year will be May 20, with installation of new officers and salad luncheon.

Future fund raising event is the spring geranium sale, to provide a scholarship to a Mineola High School senior. The club also contributes to community needs from its fundraising efforts. 

The garden club welcomes guests to any of the programs. Unless otherwise stated, the meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month in the Pecan Room of the Mineola Civic Center.
