Four school districts plan to decrease property taxes

School district property tax rates will be going down in Wood County.

According to legal notices published by Alba-Golden, Mineola, Quitman and Yantis ISDs, the property tax rates will be dropping by 2.5 cents to almost 10 cents.

The notices also include announcements of public hearings on the proposed tax rates and the budgets that they will help fund.

Alba-Golden ISD is proposing a decrease of almost four cents.

The tax rate of $1.1276 would drop to $1.08977 if approved.

The school board will hold a public hearing Monday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Mineola ISD is proposing a tax rate of $1.0437, a decline of about two and a half cents from the present rate of $1.0683.

A public hearing is set Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.

Quitman ISD would see a decrease of six cents.

The district’s rate of $1.294 would drop to $1.2339.

The public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 17.

Yantis ISD tax payers would see a decrease of almost a dime from 97 cents to 87.47 cents.

The public hearing is Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.

Rising property values helped districts lower their tax rates.

In Alba-Golden the average home market value rose from $130,382 to $136,554.

The average home owner’s tax bill would drop by $21 to $1,147 under the proposal.

The average in Mineola went from $130,163 last year to $139,725. The average tax bill would rise $56.58 to $1,138.

Quitman’s average value jumped $10,000 to $123,387. The average tax bill of $1,153 would rise almost $34.

The average in Yantis ISD went from $200,474 to $220,064. The average tax bill would fall $45 to $1,606.
