Drums beat, cheerleaders cheered, adults wielded silly string and big checks were awarded as the Mineola ISD Education Foundation prize patrol made the rounds of the four district campuses Thursday morning.

They bore a stack of big checks representing education grants totaling $32,200 as the proceeds from the foundation’s fundraising activities.

Teachers applied for almost $60,000 to supplement their classroom activities.

As foundation member Martha Holmes noted, teachers can apply again next year if their project wasn’t chosen, and in some instances programs that were successful in the past have been expanded with additional funds.

This marks the foundation’s fifth year to pass out awards. Last year’s patrol had to be scaled down to an online version as the campuses were shuttered by COVID-19.

Total for the five years has surpassed $122,000.

The successful projects are as follows:

Melissa Snook - Primary Music, $3,680, for outdoor musical instruments to add to the outdoor learning center used by primary and middle school.

Stacy Wedding - Kindergarten Team, $2,398, for noise canceling headphones.

Laura Marder - HS Science Team, $4,000, for outdoor garden supplies and green house.

Deborah Armstrong - Science, $1,000, for structure tester/bridge breaker.

Laura Marder - Biology, $1,000 for materials to study cells such as slides kits, charts, etc.

Deborah Armstrong - District, $3,310 for a learning dome.

Kaye Morris - Primary Campus, $2,000 for Ozobots.

Terri Dievendorf, Middle and High School Drama - $817 for lighting for drama and other productions.

Jana Nance - 3rd Grade Team, $4,000 for lockers/storage units.

Deborah Armstrong - HS Science Team, $5,000 for traveling learning trunks full of lesson materials to be easily moved and shared.

Stacy Wedding - Kindergarten Team, $998 for LCD writing tablets.

Tina Peterson - MS Campus, $1,608 for items to create media productions such as cameras, tripods, green screens.

Alison Adkins - MS Music, $1,809 for choir items/uniforms for middle school choir.

An additional $577 was included to cover any cost or delivery overages.
