Lady Owls fall to Fruitvale for Homecoming
The Yantis girls team entered Friday’s Homecoming tilt against Fruitvale with an even district record but a fast start by the Lady Bobcats was too much for the Lady Owls to overcome and they fell to Fruitvale 41-29.
Fruitvale took a six-point lead off a 14-8 run at the end of the first period and both squads matched points in the second period to lock the game at 24-18 at halftime. Yantis continued to fight in the second half but the Lady Bobcats made runs of 11-7 and 6-4 to nail the door shut on the Lady Owls in the second half.
Bayley Bush led the way for the Lady Owls with nine points followed by Montana Wetzel with seven points. Ashten Burnett contributed five points to the cause and the Hooker sisters, Maddie and Maggie, each scored four points.
The Yantis Lady Owls (8-11, 2-3) are still in the hunt for a playoff spot with only three games remaining and a 2-1 record against those remaining opponents. The Lady Owls hosted Bloomburg Tuesday, after Monitor press time, and travel to Union Hill Friday before ending the regular season at home Tuesday against Avinger.
