District play begins for high school football

District play begins tonight as Mineola hosts Mt. Vernon, Grand Saline visits Quitman and Alba-Golden heads west to Quinlan Boles.

Alba-Golden comes in at 4-0, Quitman 3-1 and Mineola 2-2.

Grand Saline stops Quitman in three plays and scores on their first play as the Indians lead 7-0.

Mt. Vernon starts with the ball and drives it down the field on the ground. The Tigers convert a 4th down at the Mineola 13 with a pass.

The Tigers push it in to lead 7-0.

Mineola crosses midfield but has to punt after just missing a deep throw.

Grand Saline stops Quitman again and scores, this time on long drive, to lead 14-0.

Mineola defense gets a stop and good field position at the Mt. Vernon 48.

Meanwhile in volleyball Mineola beats Mt. Vernon in four games earlier in the evening to open district.

Alba-Golden and Boles exchange scores and the Panthers lead 35-12.

Mineola turns it over on downs at the Mt. Vernon 39 with 6:13 to go.

Many missed tackles help Mt. Vernon to a long gain deep into Jacket territory.
