On Saturday, April 23rd, Wood County Master Gardeners will host a free seminar - "Spring Fling, No Green Thumb" required - at the Mineola Nature Preserve from 10 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to attend free of charge. Talks will be presented by members of the Wood County Master Gardeners at the Pavilion and a tour of the wild-scape garden will be given, focusing on the Butterfly Garden, as well as pointing out plants native to Texas and our region of the state.
Ellen Atkins will demonstrate the "lasagna garden technique" - layering soil materials to achieve a fertile, productive garden that is easy to maintain. Melissa Deakins will show us interesting ways to garden with containers not typically used. There will be a second container garden prepared by Lori Clark. And there will be a session on growing herbs in a sensory garden. The demonstrations will be applicable to vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants.
A drawing will be held to give away "outdoor prizes." The prizes are large in size, so we suggest coming in your truck. You must be present to win, so you can take those prizes. Any items sold at the event will be tax free.
We hope to see you there. Bring the whole family. It will be an informative and fun event - and a great way to enjoy the beautiful Mineola Nature Preserve!
