County volleyball teams set for preseason action

Wood County volleyball teams head into action with a full slate of matches this weekend and next week.

The veteran Quitman Lady Bulldogs will be in Grandview this weekend at one of the state’s premier volleyball tournaments with top teams from throughout Texas in attendance. The Lady Bulldogs return to Delbert Ballard Memorial Gym, Tuesday, taking on Troup beginning at 5 p.m. with freshmen, JV and varsity all in action.

Mineola’s Lady Jackets varsity will be in action at the Van Tournament this weekend while the JV teams travel to Eustace for a tournament. The Lady Jackets will be on the road Tuesday to Palestine Westwood with both JV teams and the varsity in action beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Coach Jamie Garcia’s Yantis Lady Owls will be busy this week traveling to play in the Roxton Tournament Thursday and Saturday. The will travel to Detroit Friday for JV and varsity games beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Owls will host Sulphur Bluff Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Alba-Golden’s Lady Panthers and Coach TaShara Everett will travel to Class 4A Princeton this weekend for a tournament against top teams from the metroplex while the JV will be in the Eustace Tournament Thursday and Saturday. The Lady Panthers are on the road Tuesday at Big Sandy for three matches beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Hawkins’ Lady Hawks will be at home this Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. for matches against Cumberland Academy and travel to Harmony Tuesday for three matches starting at 4:30 p.m.
