County COVID leave policy outlined
Wood County commissioners discussed the county’s COVID leave policy in a workshop after Tuesday’s meeting. Commissioners will meet Tuesday (Jan. 19) at 8:30 a.m. to adopt a policy.
Highlights from the proposed COVID leave policy to be presented include the following:
If exposure is less than probable, the employee will monitor himself/herself to detect symptoms and check temperature. Employee should continue the use of a mask, hand sanitizer and social distancing while in the workplace; if exposure is probable, the employee begins a six-day quarantine with a COVID test on the fifth day. Employee may return to work on the seventh day with a negative test and no symptoms, and employees with children whose school or daycare is closed due to COVID shall be granted up to a total of five days administrative “A” leave in 2021 for childcare.
If symptoms are present, employee is to quarantine and test as soon as possible. If test is positive, employee leave is covered for 14 day days under A leave. If employee is well by the 10th day with no symptoms and has not run fever in the previous 14 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication, they may return to work on the 11th day. If employee tests negative, the time of quarantine awaiting test will be covered under “B” leave (exposure). After a negative result, the ill employee will be on their own sick leave until they return to work. If an employee refuses to be tested, “A”or “B” leave is not available for their use. Only 14 days of “A” leave can be used in 2021.
If a dependent is positive and an employee must provide care due to dependent testing positive for COVID, the employee must inform their supervisor of the need for leave and shall be granted up to 14 days “A” leave.
Wood County employees who need or are required to test for COVID shall contact Tully Davidson, emergency management coordinator, at 903-569-7327, who will provide instructions for getting tested through county contract or testing services. Employees who choose not to use county options risk assuming all costs of testing.
