MHS track girls and boys win second in Rains

The boys and girls track teams, both varsity and junior varsity, represented Mineola High School at the Rains Track Meet Thursday coming home with 15 first place medals, nine seconds and 17 third place medals.

Both the girls varsity and junior varsity took second place. The boys placed fourth and the junior varsity boys were second. Kaufman won every division except for the varsity boys, which was won by Kemp. Rains, Wills Point, Brownsboro, Edgewood and Frankston also competed.

In the girls varsity, the team of Sheila Smith, Kiara Williams, Lena Hughes and Jessiah Riley placed first with a time of 51.1 in the 4x100 Relay and also first in the 4x200. Riley also placed first in the 100 Meter.

Alaina Lopez placed first in the 300 Hurdles with 52.12 and Taylor Griffin was first in Shot Put with 30’ 9”. Kirstiana Welch was also first in the 1600 with 5:44.03.

Those receiving second places were Smith in the 200 Meter with 27.59 and Hughes in the High Jump with 4’8”. Thirds went to Welch in the 3200 Meter with 13:16.83, Meghan Brewington in the 800 Meter with 2:33.59; Tristan Kirk in the 100 Hurdles with 18.15 and also in the 300 Hurdles and Griffin in the Discus with 96’ 10 ½”. The 4x400 Relay of Hughes, Williams, Rachel Martinez and Brewington also placed third.

Sha’Quelena Choice placed 6th In the 100 Meter, Martinez was 5th in the 400 Meter and Hughes was fourth in Triple Jump.

In the Boys Meet, golds went to Kourtland Sinches in the 100 Meter with 11.49, Cameron Hayes in Pole Vault with 13’6”, and Drason Tenner in Shot Put with 46’10”.

Seconds went to Sinches in Long Jump with 20’8” and K.J. Hawkins in Discus with 133’2”. Thirds went to Devon Goguen in the 100 Hurdles with 16.02, Cameron Davis in the 200 Meter with 23.66, Curtis London in the Triple Jump with 39’4” and Jacob Hurst in the Shot Put with 43’4 1/2”. The 4x200 Relay team of London, Dalton Harris, Shaw Franklin and Sinches also won third.

Also, Omar Gonzales was 6th in the 3200 Meter, Shawmon Franklin was 5th in the 100 Hurdles, Sinches was 4th in the High Jump and Cameron Wise was 4th in the Shot Put. The 4x400 Relay team of Harris, Franklin, Davis and Kartney Hampton placed 5th.

Junior varsity

The MHS JV girls track team members who claimed firsts were Chloe Cormier in the 100 Hurdles with 18.25 and in the 300 Hurdles with 54.43, Laci Brown in the Shot Put with 27’ 4 ½” and in the Discus with 73’5”.

Seconds went to Sabria Dean in the 800 Meter with 2:44.46, Lovely Wright in the 100 Meter with 14 and the 4x400 Relay team of Emily Jones, Cormier, Wright and Dean with 4:35.66. Third place was won by Kylie Grant in the 100 Meter with 14.40.

Others who placed were in the 3200 Meter, Anna Reyna, 4th and Rosalinda Marquez 5th; 400 Meter, Jones, 6th and 1600 Meter, Reyna, 4th.

In the boys competition, firsts were won by the 4x400 Relay of Kelby Bruner, Wylie Franks, Devon Cormier and Josh Wright with 3:46.61. Franks also tied for first in the High Jump with 5’4”.

Cormier took second in the 100 Hurdles with 18.06 and in the Triple Jump with 36’10”

Tied for third in the 100 Meter were Brandyn Cooke and Wright with 12.03. Third place was also claimed by Franks in the 300 Hurdles, Bruner in the 200 Meter with 24.28 and Tyler Stanford in the Pole Vault with 8’6”.

Also placing for the JV boys were Gavin Brown, who was 6th in the 3200 Meter, Alex Evans who was 4th in the 100 Hurdles, Jake Haggerton 6th in 100 Meter, Cormier 5th in 300 Hurdles, Seth Kirk 6th in Shot Put and Marcus Riley 6th in Discus.
