The Yantis Lady Owls lost a tough match in five sets to CHESS home school by scores of 9-25, 25-8, 25-17, 15-25 and 7-15.
“The girls had a rough start but once they got in sync with each other and decided they all wanted to win there was no breaking them apart. Sarah Wilkey was a beast on the net in last the game! She really showed her true colors out on the court,” Coach Jamie Garcia said. “They were all playing as a team. We were doing good until we made a few bad choices which pushed our confidence level down and cost us the game in the end. I really believe that if we can stay up and confident in ourselves and don’t let the little mistakes get in our heads then we will be great.”
Statistics for the Lady Owls were Bailey Bush with two kills, three aces, 14 digs and one tip; Ashton Burnett had one kill, eight aces, seven assists, one block and one tip; Madison Jones with four kills, six aces, eight digs, four blocks and two tips; Sarah Wilkey had four kills, two aces, four digs, four blocks and one tip; Maggie Hooker had six digs and one block; Gracie Beech with one kill and seven digs; Montana Wetzel had one ace, nine digs and four blocks; Jackie Lopez had one kill and 10 digs; and Maddie Hooker had one kill, three aces, eight digs and one tip.
The Lady Owls play at Union Hill this Friday and finish the preseason with a home match against CHESS Sept. 20. They will open district play Sept. 23 at Quinlan Boles.
