Wood County Commissioners approved two proclamations Tuesday concerning Crime Victims Rights Week April 18-24 and April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Wood County District Attorney Angela Albers read the National Crime Victims Rights Week Proclamation, which reaffirms Wood County’s commitment to creating a victims’ services and criminal justice response that assists all victims of crime during Crime Victims Week and throughout the year.

East Texas Crisis Center representative Crystal Mayer read the proclamation designating April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The proclamation includes a statement concerning the consequences of sexual assault as being severe and long lasting and in addition the risk of developing post traumatic stress disorder, depression and many other psychological or physical ailments which increases dramatically for victims.

In personnel matters, Susan Resnik was approved as a temporary employee at $10 per hour in Wood County Judge Lucy Hebron’s office. Resnik is a retired educator and aldermen on the Quitman City Council. Commissioners approved the resignation of Catherine Clayton who had served as county court administrator and administrative assistant for Hebron.

Commissioners heard a presentation from Gregg County Precinct 2 Commissioner Darryl Primo concerning the Sabine-Neches Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc.

“The purpose of the organization is to bring everyone together to keep our air a little cleaner and our land a little cleaner,” he said. “The basic goal is to leave things better than we found them. We are here to help organize reclamation dates for electronics and we even were able to help fund school buses in Harrison County that were clean-burning school buses. No one knows your precincts better than you do. If you have people with septic issues or if you get a public water supply corporation put together, we are the one-stop shop. Resources are available. You support us by giving us $500 a year as the other counties do. It is the best value for a buck you can get. We need your help to identify those sources and those problems and issues that may be present in Wood County.”

In other business, commissioners approved the CopSync System for Precincts 3 and 4 constables.
