Wood County Electric Cooperatives’ 81st Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, Oct. 11 at Governor Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman.

Prior to the meeting, the public is invited to attend a concert by the fun and entertaining family  band, The Swoapes. The performance will begin at 12:30.

Keelyn, Kaylee and Kelly Swoape hail from Golden and are known for their tight sibling harmonies. Individually and as a group, they’ve written hundreds of songs. Influences include gospel, blues, bluegrass, classic country, soft and alternative rock, folk and Americana. They’ll perform some of those originals, as well as cover a range of popular songs.

The business meeting for members will begin at 2 p.m. Debbie Robinson, CEO and general manager, will introduce featured speaker District 5 State Rep. Cole Hefner, who will give brief remarks.

A native East Texan, Hefner lives in Mount Pleasant where he is a former county commissioner for Upshur County. Robinson will update members on matters regarding the cooperative.

Following the meeting there will be door prize drawings for members. As always, there will be many special prizes donated by WCEC’s generous vendors as well as the grand prize of a $500 gift card.

Members should have received, via mail, their ballots for the election for directors for WCEC Districts 5 and 6. They should detach and mail the postage-paid ballot to arrive by the deadline of Oct. 9.

Members who do this will be entered into a drawing and ten will be randomly selected to receive a $100 credit toward their electricity bill.

Bring the retained portion of the ballot letter to the meeting. This will be used for participation in door prize drawings.
