Child Welfare Board forced to cancel Tips For Tots event

The Wood County Child Welfare and Protection Board has regretfully officially canceled Tips-for-Tots in 2020 held in the past each first Monday in August at AJ’s Fish House at Lake Fork.

“This was a difficult decision for us as this annual fundraising event has been so enthusiastically supported by the Wood County community, our celebrity waiters, our business donors, our event sponsors and especially AJ’s Fish House Restaurant,” said Tracy Edwards, president of the Child Protection Board.

Proceeds from Tips-for-Tots provide a substantial portion of the operating budget to support Wood County children who are under the supervision and care of Child Protective Services (CPS).

The board gives each child a personal monthly allowance along with birthday gift cards, clothing allotments, fees for extracurricular activities and school supplies. The board also stocks and maintains the Wood County Rainbow Room which provides new clothing and necessities to children under care.

Although funds raised annually by Tips-for-Tots have been extremely important to supporting these efforts, for the safety of the community and out of respect for the economic challenges faced by the business sponsors/donors and community supporters, the board feels this is the best course of action.

The board thanks the citizens and businesses of Wood County for the tremendous support they provide to the Child Welfare and Protection Board and the foster children of Wood County. The board wants everyone to look forward to seeing everyone at A.J.’s for Tips-for-Tots in 2021.
