Charles “James” Dyer 1962-2021

Charles “James” Dyer, of Quitman passed away Sept. 8, 2021 in Tyler at age 58.

James was born in El Campo on Sept. 28, 1962 to Charles and Gracie Bullard Dyer. He was a resident of Wood County for 25 years, where he was a member of First Assembly of God in Quitman. He married Regina Hicks Dyer on April 5, 1996 in Pickton at Harmony Assembly of God.  

James owned and operated Dyer Construction and worked as a contractor for 25 years. He enjoyed deer and hog hunting and fishing. He taught his children how to hunt and safely use a gun.  

James greets in Heaven his parents, Charles and Gracie Dyer; nephew, Brody Dyer; and niece, Kassie Barker.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Regina Dyer of Quitman; six children, Brandon Hicks of Quitman, Jared Turner and wife Tammy of Quitman, Brandon Dyer of Dallas, Scotty Dyer and wife Melissa of Longview, Clayton Dyer of Royce City and Nicki Dyer of Quitman; four siblings, Kenneth Dyer, Tena Shelton, Gala Brenton and Mary Dyer; seven grandchildren, Rachel Brassfield, Katelyn Hicks, Hunter Turner, Warren Hicks, Jayden Dyer, Jax Turner and Eliza Dyer; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.  

Funeral service for James was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 at First Assembly of God in Quitman with Brother Ken Otwell officiating. Graveside service followed at Quitman City Cemetery. The family received friends 30 minutes prior to service time, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers were Brandon Dyer, Scotty Dyer, Joey Gerdes, Bo Dyer, Aaron Dyer and Keenan Price.
