Charles “Charlie” Crockett, 1943-2020

Posted

Charles “Charlie” Crockett had a heart attack and passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020 in Tyler. He was less than one month from his 78th birthday.

Charlie was known as a friendly, at times cantankerous, but always helpful neighbor and friend. He was always admonishing others not to worry about things beyond their control. By turns cynical and tender, Charlie had a poet’s soul, as well as a love for animals and country-western swing music.

He left behind a much-loved wife of 59 years, Jeanette, and three loving and successful children – Melanie (Kenneth) Crockett, David (Margie) Crockett, and Daniel (Anna) Crockett. Also left missing his wry wit and steady presence are seven grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Crockett, Lindsey (Mason) Smith, Amanda (Richard) Roth, Abigail (Thomas) Plagenza, Emily Crockett, Kali Crockett and Kennedy Crockett, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and three more on the way. Quite a legacy for a rootless boy from a small South Texas town.

As per Charlie’s wishes, there will be no funeral. Instead, he will be remembered and grieved in a personal way by those who knew and loved him best, as they figure out how to “SAAAY” goodbye.
