Bulldogs upended by Troup
Two second inning errors led to three Troup runs and Quitman could not recover, falling to the Tigers 11-4. Ben Burroughs did not allow a hit the first two innings, but errors gave Troup all they needed. Quitman committed eight errors.
Quitman closed the gap to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but a five-run uprising in the top of the fifth put Troup ahead 8-1. Burroughs struck out five in five innings of work and allowed seven hits, walking just one batter.
Down 11-2, the Bulldogs scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to get the final 11-4 score. Ty Holland had two of the Bulldogs’ five hits. Mason Reynolds, Landon Richey and Justin Matthews each had a hit for Quitman.
The Bulldogs were set to start district play Tuesday against Grand Saline, but the UIL suspended play until at least March 29 due to the coronavirus. It is not known how or if games will be made up this spring.
