Local funds to benefit hundreds of QISD students

Two Quitman High School teaching departments were each recently awarded a $5000 grant to acquire much needed learning centers. The monies for the grants were derived from the Quitman Foundation of Perpetual Scholastic Funds. These funds were received by Quitman ISO Superintendent Mrs. Rhonda Turner and faculty members: Mrs. Shelly Chance, Mrs. Penny Peak, and Mrs. Sherry Callahan.

The Foreign Language Department, directed by Mrs. Chance and Mrs. Peak received $5000 for the purchase of small computers capable of accessing free programming. This equipment and programming will provide Quitman foreign language students with a language lab which will greatly enhance their learning experience.

The other $5000 grant went to the Government/Economics Department, directed by Mrs. Callahan. Again, the purchase of small computers will allow the instructor to enrich the curriculum by sourcing a wealth of impactful programming to assist students in mastering these required subjects.

It is hoped that the granting of funds for targeted educational needs can become an annual event for Quitman ISO. Soon tax free donations can be made for such funding activity through the Quitman Lake Country Charitable Foundation.
