The Quitman Bulldogs came home from the Big Sandy baseball tournament with a win and two losses. The Bulldogs opened play with an 11-3 romp over Jefferson Friday afternoon. Quitman scored three runs in the first inning and four each in the second and third innings.

Bulldogs go 1-2 in baseball tournament action
The Quitman Bulldogs came home from the Big Sandy baseball tournament with a win and two losses. The Bulldogs opened play with an 11-3 romp over Jefferson Friday afternoon. Quitman scored three runs in the first inning and four each in the second and third innings.
Quitman raced to a 7-0 lead after two innings, but Jefferson came back to get three runs in the top of the third. Quitman came back with four more in the bottom of the third. Ty Holland got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, striking out seven and giving up six hits. The Bulldogs played an aggressive running game, stealing nine bases.
Quitman worked Jefferson pitchers for nine walks. Riley Flanagan and Caleb Hamby each had three RBI with Mason Reynolds and Cody Hawley each posting an RBI.
On Friday evening, the Bulldogs dropped a close 9-8 contest to Paul Pewitt. The Bulldogs fought back in the top of the fourth with six runs after Pewitt had taken a 5-2 lead. The Brahmas came back to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the victory.
The Bulldogs scattered 10 hits in the contest with Ford Tannebaum, Reynolds, Holland and Hamby each getting two hits.
The Bulldogs faced Class 4A Anna on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves scored three runs in the top of the first and Quitman came back with two in the bottom of the inning making it 3-2. Anna took a 6-2 lead into the top of the fourth and final inning when they scored eight runs to take a final 14-2 advantage. Quitman was able to muster one hit by Flanagan.
Quitman will be in a tournament this weekend at Union Grove. District play for the Bulldogs begins March 17 at Grand Saline.
