Bulldogs gain split in baseball
Quitman’s Mason Reynolds gave up one run as he mowed down the Gilmer JV team giving up just one hit and striking out seven, leading the Bulldogs to a 9-1 win at the Union Grove Tournament Saturday.
Gilmer got a run in the top of the first, but that was all the Buckeyes could manage off Reynolds. The Bulldogs came back with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second. They tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving them the eight-run victory.
The Bulldogs banged out eight hits led by lead-off man Ford Tannebaum’s two and Garin Kisinger adding a pair of hits. Also getting base hits were Reynolds, Ben Burroughs, Caleb Hamby, Carson Dickens, Landon Richey and Johnata Jones. The Bulldogs were aggressive on the base paths with six players getting two steals and Burroughs getting three.
The Bulldogs took on Como-Pickton Friday afternoon at Union Grove. After falling behind 6-0, Quitman came back with single runs in the third and fourth innings while adding four more in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.
The Eagles came back in their half of the sixth inning to score four more runs and secure the 10-6 win. Both teams had defensive troubles with the Bulldogs making seven errors and Como-Pickton committing eight errors. Both teams had three hits. Quitman’s Landon Richey only gave up one hit and struck out seven in four innings on the mound.
The Bulldogs are at home against Troup this Friday for a double-header and open district play at home March 17 against Grand Saline.
