Bigham honored for 22 years
Mayor Pro Tem Novada Bigham took the mayor’s gavel to open her final meeting on the Mineola City Council Monday.
Bigham has served Ward Three for 22 years and stepped down at the end of her 11th term. Cassandra Sampson was unopposed to replace Bigham and was sworn in Monday, along with returning members Jayne Lankford and Sue Jones. Jones was elected as the new mayor pro tem.
Among those praising Bigham’s years of service were State Rep. Cole Hefner and State Sen. Bryan Hughes.
Hefner presented Bigham with a flag flown over the state capitol in her honor, and Hughes presented a joint resolution from the Texas Senate and Texas House and a state gavel.
