Beef, forage conference set

Wood County will host the Tri-County Beef and Forage Conference Friday, March 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman.

It is hosted by the extension services of Wood, Rains and Van Zandt counties.

The program includes lunch, and participants should RSVP to their respective county offices by Monday, Feb. 24. Reach the Wood County office at 903-763-2924. Cost is $30, and participants can receive three continuing education units toward their pesticide applicator license.

Following registration at 8:30, the first program at 9 is pasture weed control, followed by herbicide result demonstration summaries, both conducted by Clint Perkins, Smith County agriculture agent.

At 11:15, Tony Fazzino with Pigbrig will speak on the impacts of wild hogs on agriculture, livestock, forage and more.

After lunch, Dr. Jason Banta, extension beef cattle specialist, will speak on factors affecting calving ease followed by improving forage quality.
