Back the Blue event to raise money for 31 vests in 31 days

On Saturday there will be a Back the Blue Day fun day event held at Governor Jim Hogg Park in Quitman from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will benefit Jaxon Holland’s fundraiser to raise money to buy 31 bulletproof vests in 31 days for the Wood County Sheriff’s office.

There will be a motorcycle fun run starting at 8:45 a.m. as well as the opportunity to dunk the sheriff in a dunk tank.

Back the blue t-shirts and hats will also be available for purchase at the park, part of the proceeds will go to the fundraiser.

Holland has been doing many different things to raise money for the vests.

On Thursday he waited tables at Pizza, Pasta, Amore in Mineola. On Friday he walked in the McFarland School Reunion parade with his Scout troop. Over the weekend he had a table at the Mineola Fire Department Rodeo selling t-shirts and taking donations.

Holland is taking donations, waiting tables at restaurants, speaking at clubs in the area and even walking from business to business talking to owners about his fundraiser to raise the money.

On July 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. Holland will be at Juarez Mexican Restaurant for taco Tuesday.
