Alba Public Library celebrating a decade of service

A tenth anniversary celebration for the Alba Public Library and museum is planned Saturday, Sept. 18 from noon-4 p.m. to mark the facility’s 10th anniversary.

The library opened in December 2010 after two years of hard work to convert the building into a space for a library and local history museum.

The celebration had been planned in March but was postponed.

The library has over 16,500 volumes cataloged, with more arriving weekly.

It has hosted several authors, story time for younger children, summer reading programs and is planning Reading in Pajama events in December.

The museum has expanded to add many new pieces including a 100-year-old dress worn by Madelyn Cain Matthews, former owner of the building, and a collection from singer-songwriter and Grand Ol’ Opry performer Leon Payne.

Volunteers open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
