Alba-Golden wins boys and girls district track titles

er special day for Alba-Golden High School athletics. On the windy prairie at Cooper High School, the boys and girls track teams became district champions.

The coaching staff was elated and also circumspect. “It was a great team win, and all the credit belongs to the athletes,” stated boys track coach Brad Gibson.

The two teams duplicated their feat from last year, but even more decisively.

The boys were 77 points clear and the girls were 26 points ahead of the second-place teams, both from Como-Pickton.

The boys’ squad leveraged a number of blue-ribbon performances: Jake Hallman (100-meter dash) 11.59 and (200-meter dash) 23.20; Payton Dickinson (400-meter dash) 53.17; Cameron Lennon (110-meter hurdles) 18.84; Aiden Standifer (300-meter hurdles) 44.76; Gavin Parker (long jump) 19’9 ¾”; Wyatt Sutton (triple jump) 39’8”; and Luke Morrison (pole vault) 11’6.”

Sweeping the 300-meter hurdles as well as the pole vault also boosted the point totals. Additional top three finishers included Glen Hartley in the 100-meter dash, Sutton 200-meter dash, Alex Pfingsten in the 110-meter hurdles, Lennon and Pfingsten in the 300-meter hurdles, Hallman in the long jump, Layton Williams in the shot put and Pfingsten and Hallman in the pole vault.

The Panthers picked up a third and two second-place finishes in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays.

With 4th place finishes were Brandt Peterson in the 3200-meters, Ian Rogers in the 200-meter dash and Adan Bucio in the 800-meter run.

The same determination characterized the Lady Panthers squad.

The Lady Panthers relay teams provided a showing for the ages. Six young ladies combined to take the top spot in all three relays. Kamrin Wright, Brealyn Massie, Kalli Trimble and Cacie Lennon won the 4x100 with a time of 52.42. Wright and Trimble were joined by Lainey Teel and Landrie Boyd to take the 4x200 relay with a 1:54.27. In the evening’s showcase event Wright, Massie, Teel and Lennon sprinted to a first-place finish with a 4:28.72 time.

It is safe to say that they had nothing left in the tank.

Olivia Morrison added a blue ribbon in the pole vault, 7’6”, and Cacie Lennon registered a gold medal in the shot put with a put of 35’.

Other top three performers were Lennon in the 100-meter dash and long jump, Trimble in the 200-meter dash, Massie in the 400-meter dash and Erin Langston in the 100-meter hurdles.

With 4th-place finishes were Megan Wallace in the 3200-meter run, Hannah Shakleford in the 100-meter hurdles, Brealyn Massie in the long jump and Emily Hlavaty in the pole vault.

In a display of team cohesiveness, the Alba-Golden teams came together en masse to cheer the winning relay team in the final event of the district meet.
