Alba-Golden student named DAR Good Citizen
Justina Peterson, a senior at Alba-Golden High School, was selected as the winner of the 2019 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen contest. She will represent the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter, NSDAR through the next levels of judging.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The award recognizes individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.
Candidates are chosen by the school faculty based on criteria established by DAR. Those students are then eligible to enter the contest which could result in a substantial scholarship as well as State and National DAR recognition.
Peterson, who was selected out of four entries, plans to pursue a nursing degree at Brigham Young University. School winners and entries recognized by the chapter were also submitted by Claudia Barriga, Mineola ISD; Joshua Henson, Rains ISD; and Whitnee Weiher, Quitman ISD.
Each student was personally recognized by Karen Pilgrim, Chapter Regent, with a DAR Certificate of Achievement, lapel pin and pocket card.
