The Alba-Golden school board upheld the handling of a grievance filed regarding the school’s dress code Monday.

The grievance, which had to do with the male grooming standards, had been previously dismissed, but it was further appealed to the board.

In closed session, the board discussed complaint response procedures. The discussion centered on the handling of a Level Three grievance. Local grievance procedures start at Level One, which is a written grievance addressed to the appropriate principal. A Level Two grievance is the appeal of the Level One decision to the superintendent or the superintendent’s representative. A Level Three grievance is the appeal of a decision to the board of trustees.

Additionally, the board acted in preparation for the upcoming school year by approving new instructional materials, voting to continue the relationship with Tyler Junior College for their dual-credit program and extending the bank depository agreement with BTH Bank.

The board recognized students Lucy Sadler and Rylee Wilcoxson for their selection as elementary and secondary students of the month, respectively. Jasmine Weed, who will soon begin her studies in chiropractic medicine, was also recognized as an early graduate.
