Alba-Golden, Quitman athletes get wins

Some familiar faces from Alba-Golden and Quitman high schools claimed blue ribbons at the 2020 Hawkins Hawk Relays last Thursday.  

Bulldog Trey Berry had a banner day, capturing titles in the 100 meter dash (11.18 seconds), 200 meter dash (22.56) and long jump (21 feet 3.75 inches). Teammate Brooklyn Marcee set a Hawk Relay record by flying 11-1 to a first place finish in the pole vault.

Panther Jon-Michael Chadwick soared 39-11.5 to secure first place in the triple jump competition. The Lady Panther relay teams also had a stellar day. Crimson Bryant, Cacie Lennon, McKenzie Parker and Hope Wiley won the 4x100 relay with a time of 53.69. Bella Crawford and Kaleigh Anglin joined Bryant and Lennon to secure the 4x400 meter relay crown in 4:30.

Lennon also placed third in the 100 meter dash, while Crawford finished third in the 300-meter hurdles. Mckenzie Parker captured second in the pole vault. 

Other top-three Panther finishers were Austin Hartley third in the 100 meter dash, Hunter Wright third in the 300 meter hurdles and Nick Jones third in the pole vault. The relay team of Chadwick, Hartley, Baker and Trimble captured second place in the 4x100 meter relay and third place in the 4x200 meter relay.

Bulldog performers in the top three were Brooklyn Marcee second in the 100 meter hurdles, Madelynn Whitehurst third in the discus and Halie Davis second in the shot put. The relay team of Madyson Pence, Cristal Plata, Jazmin Rojas and Julia Simpkins finished third in the 4x200 meter relay. Brooklyn Marcee and Bonnie VanderSchaaf joined Pence and Simpkins to register third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.       

Bulldog Jace Reid finished third in discus, while the 4x100 meter relay team of Berry, Jayden Hall, Wyatt Hightower and Bryan Morris captured third.   

Twelve schools competed at the Hawk Relays.
