Alba-Golden High School hosts tennis competition
Under clear skies Alba-Golden high school hosted athletes from Quitman and Mabank in a three-way tennis tournament last Friday.
About 40 tennis players enjoyed the competition and dealt with the gusty winds.
According to Alba-Golden tennis coach Becky Boettcher, the roster of tennis players has been on the rise. “It’s a fun game and very social,” she stated. Coach Boettcher was quick to highlight the leadership qualities of her tennis captains Jessica Collier, Cameron Galyean and Will Hartin, who lead the team.
Collier, a senior who is already sworn in as a member of the U.S. Army through an enlistment called the Split-Ops Program, shared that tennis is a great stress-reliever. “I really enjoy the silence on the court and the opportunity for focused concentration,” she remarked.
Alba-Golden and Quitman will meet three times this spring for competitive matches. With the new courts recently finished behind Quitman High School, the Bulldogs will be looking to make maximum use of the new facility.
Boettcher commented that tennis is such a great game in part because of the natural movements involved. “Anyone, at any age, can pick up the game and enjoy it,” she stated.
