Alba-Golden boys felled by Quitman in district warmup

The Quitman Bulldogs defeated Alba-Golden for the second time this year with a 52-40 win over the Panthers at Delbert Ballard Gym Tuesday before Christmas.

The Panthers got things started off taking a 4-0 lead on buckets by Boedy Baker. The Panthers got a pair of buckets by Will Hurd on drives in the lane to score eight first quarter points. Back to back three-point shots by Quitman’s Levi Thompson brought the score to 8-7 in favor of the Panthers by the end of the quarter. 

Hurd hit another running jumper from about 12 feet out to give Alba-Golden a 10-7 edge. The Bulldogs went on a 14-0 run led by Garin Kisinger’s six points as Quitman took a 21-10 lead. Hurd hit a short jump shot for the Panthers to make it 21-12. The Bulldogs took a 23-14 lead on a shot by Thomas Sabedra on an assist from Jack Tannebaum. Sebedra hit a free throw to make it 24-16 in favor of the Bulldogs at the half.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half with Ford Tannebaum hitting back to back three-point shots to give Quitman a 30-17 lead. Jack Tannebaum came back at the 5:22 mark of the third quarter with another long trey to give the Bulldogs a 33-17 lead. Matthew Smith added a corner triple and Brady Floyd’s free throw with :30 seconds left in the quarter made it a 43-29 Bulldog lead going into the final stanza. 

Kisinger muscled his way down the lane for a bucket to start the fourth quarter and give Quitman its biggest lead of the night at 45-29. The Bulldog scoring for the rest of the game was five free throws and a bucket, all by Floyd, to make it the final 52-40 score.

Kisinger not only controlled the boards on defense, he led Quitman with 10 points. Floyd and Thompson each had nine points, Ford Tannebaum six, Jack Tannebaum and Sebedra scored five each.

The Bulldogs get back to District 13-3A play Saturday against Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill at Delbert Ballard Gym with JV games followed by varsity games. The JV girls tip off first at noon.
