A history-making team
The record-setting Mineola Yellowjacket basketball team fell in the regional final to Hooks Saturday afternoon. The Hornets’ 56-43 win at Prosper High School gave them a trip to the state tournament, starting Thursday in San Antonio.
The four playoff games it took to get the Yellowjackets to the regional final are the most in a single season in Mineola High School boys basketball history.
It marked just the second time for MHS to get to the regional tournament, a feat first recorded by the 1961 team, which lost in the semifinal.
The 2023 team defeated New Boston 52-35 for bidistrict, Tatum 47-40 for area, Atlanta 54-41 for regional quarterfinals, and on Friday evening beat Whiteboro 55-45 in the regional semifinal.
Hooks advanced with a double overtime win over Ponder on Friday, hitting a shot in the final seconds to win 52-50.
