Community-wide pep rally for Mineola Yellowjackets set for Wednesday evening

The Mineola Yellowjackets are heading to Jerry World this Thursday to compete in the Class 3A-Division 1 Championship Game and the Mineola faithful are ready to send them on their way to football glory.

There is a community-wide pep rally scheduled for Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the gazebo downtown. CNB will cook hot dogs along with other refreshments and food available from local businesses.

The schedule for the rally includes:

5:30 p.m. Food will be served with holiday music to entertain

6:00 p.m. The football team will arrive on fire trucks

6:05 p.m. A welcome by Mayor Rodney Watkins, Mineola Superintendent Kim Tunnell and high school Principal David Sauer

6:10 p.m. Recognition of former Mineola players, band members and alumni

6:15 p.m. Coach Drennon and players will speak followed by the school fight song performed by the Mineola “Sound of the Swarm” Marching Band and

6:30 p.m. A community prayer for the team led by Kendall Banks.

A district-wide pep rally will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the high school gym. There will be an early release for students following the pep rally. The team send-off begins at 3:30 p.m. at Meredith Memorial Stadium. Leaving Meredith Stadium at 3:30 p.m. The team will travel north on the loop to 69, through downtown and west on Highway 80.

The game will be shown at Select Theater for free. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the game scheduled for 8 p.m. No outside food or drink will be allowed but the concession stand will be open.

If you’re attending the game, Superintendent Tunnell is calling for an Orange-Out so be sure to dress in Mineola Orange attire.

FOX Sports Southwest will provide live webcasts of the 2016 UIL Texas High School football state championships from AT&T Stadium in Arlington Dec. 15-17.

The wall-to-wall television coverage will feature live game telecasts plus shows between games and a wrap-up highlight program after the final contest of the postseason.
